Janet Gregory Shue

August 29, 1941 — July 30, 2012

Janet Gregory Shue, 70, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2012, after a long, brave battle with cancer, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, surrounded by the love of her husband of 52 years and her three children. Mrs. Shue was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 29, 1941 to the late RJ and Lillian Gregory. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Ralph, Ben, and Bob. After graduating from West Mecklenburg High School, she married Don A. Shue, Jr., and lived her entire life in Charlotte, where she made raising a strong, closely knit family her life's work. Once her own children were all older and in school, she then spent the next 26 years making a difference in the lives of many other children as a preschool teacher in the weekday preschool programs at her own church, Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, and at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Davidson. She finally served as director of the weekday preschool program at Cole Memorial United Methodist Church in Charlotte before retiring to spend time with her husband, children, and beloved grandchildren. One of her greatest pleasures was to spend time at the beach with her family, and she had many fond memories of the many summers the family spent together at the beach. In addition to her husband, Don, she is also survived by her three children, Beth Shue Wally, of Cornelius; Don Shue, III and wife Mary, of Concord; Amy Shue Isaacs and husband Paul, of Huntersville; and grandchildren Gregory and Caroline Wally, Benjamin and Nicholas Shue, and Ethan and Emily Isaacs. A service to celebrate Janet's life will be held on Wednesday, August 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, 101 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, with the Rev. Eulando Henton, Rev. Dr. Keith Copeland, and Rev. Patience Brumley officiating. Visitation will be in the church fellowship hall from noon until 2:00. Memorials may be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville or to Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Levine Cancer Institute, as well as the doctors and staff at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House for the kindness, care, and compassion shown her and the family.
