Mr. James Oliver Wesson, Sr. 91, of Davidson, NC died Sunday March 4, 2012 at his residence. Born May 11, 1920 in Newberry, SC he was a son of the late George Washington Wesson and Mellie Thomas Wesson. Mr. Wesson graduated from Newberry High School, served in the choir at First United Methodist Church where he was an active member for 63 years and was employed with American Crankshaft. He was a US Navy Veteran 1939 to 1945 serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and enjoyed spending time with his fellow veterans at Richards Coffee Shop in Mooresville, NC. He loved growing tomatoes to share with friends and neighbors and enjoyed watching his great grandsons play ball. A Celebration of his life will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday March 7, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church Charlotte, NC with Rev. Harold Bales and Rev Bob Bogan officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville, NC and Wednesday prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Parking for the church is available off 9th Street at 525 Parking Garage. Bring parking ticket into the church to be stamped for free parking. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, James O. Wesson, Jr. and wife Glenda of Davidson, NC, Richard G Wesson and wife Cathy of High Shoals, NC; granddaughters, Lori Horn and husband Don of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Lisa Lug and husband Will of Huntersville, NC, Sara Wesson and fiancé, Chuck McCarter of High Shoals, NC; great grandsons who affectionately call him "Great", Donald, Clayton and Stephen Horn and Carson and Wesley Lug. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Frances Long Wesson; brothers William Wesson of Columbia, SC, Roland and Norman Wesson of Charlotte, NC and sister, Ethel Rush of Torrance, CA.
