James William Strowd

With broken hearts we share the passing of James William Strowd Jr., 76, of Davidson, NC  and formerly from Charleston, SC who passed on October 30, 2018.

Jim was born in Pittsboro, NC on December 12, 1941 to the late James W. Strowd and Ethel Boone Strowd.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Ellen Sharpe.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Deborah of Davidson; sons, James William Strowd (Jay) and his wife, Heather of Charlotte, Zachary Marshall Strowd and his wife, Julie of Huntersville; and grandson, Holden.

He is also survived by a loving addition to his life by marriage Don Clement and his wife, Rebecca of Salisbury, NC,  Kate Tierney and her husband, John of Concord, NC, Anna Kerr of Davidson, NC; and grandchildren, Kellie, Bella Grace, and Nick.

Jim grew up in Pittsboro, NC. He went on to study at Emory Riddle Aviation University and then at Auburn University. He was hired in 1968 by Piedmont Airlines and later US Airways until his retirement. Jim not only was a Line Pilot, but a highly skilled and respected flight instructor and check airman. The past 3 years he worked for Fly Right Aviation training in Concord doing what he loved. He was an avid runner for many years with the Charlotte and Charleston, SC running clubs. He donated much of his time volunteering track training with Bailey Middle School in Huntersville. A lover of cars he was very active for many years with the Porsche and BMW Clubs.  Last but not least, he was an active instructor with the Brakes Foundation where he educated teenage drivers on responsible driving. 

He will be greatly missed by so many; especially his soft coated Wheaten Terrier, Simon.

The Strowd family will celebrate Jim’s life with a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Fly Right Expert Training, 7075 Aviation Blvd NW, Suite A, Concord, NC.

Memorial donations may be made in James’ honor to the American Cancer Society or B.R.A.K.E.S student driving foundation.
