James Mayhew Reagans

Mr. James Mayhew Reagan Paw Paw Jim of Huntersville died on Friday March 18, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville. A native of Huntersville, he was born on October 27, 1924 a son of the late Franklin Alexander and Esther Stillwell Reagan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Helms Reagan; one sister, Mary Bell Hayden; one brother, William Clyde Reagan and his wife Martha; and one brother-n-law, William Marion Beard. Jim was a true farmer at heart and an avid fisherman. His love for talking to people enabled him to openly share his faith in Jesus with others. It also helped him to become a top salesman. He dedicated himself to his work for 70 years. Forty-four of which were spent with Piedmont Auto Exchange, and the remainder with Carolina Auto Body & Paint Supply, and Keystone Automotive, until his retirement in 2008. He was a faithful member of Gilead A.R.P. Church where he served as an elder, Sunday School teacher and choir member. He was one of the founding members and first Fire Chief of Gilead Volunteer Fire Department, where he devoted 45 years to protecting his community and helping others. He was a veteran of WW II where he served in the Army Air Corp. He is survived by one sister, Eva Mae Reagan Beard; two sons and wives, Gary Reagan and wife Gail Tilson Reagan, Rick Reagan and wife Trish Torrence Reagan; granddaughters, Ashley Reagan Lyon and husband Jacob; Erin Reagan Maynor and husband Carlton; grandsons, Matthew Reagan and girlfriend Georgia Hicks and Ben Reagan and wife Rebecca. The family will receive friends at Raymer Funeral Home on Sunday March 20 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Robert Hunter at Gilead A.R.P. Church on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Auten, Jeff Holt, Jeff Jackson, David Moore, Stokes McClellan and John Ferrell. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Gilead A.R.P. Church and members of the Gilead and Huntersville Fire Departments. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Gilead A.R.P. Building Fund, 15303 Beatties Ford Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.
