James Robert Lanno, also known as Jim or Jimmy, passed away peacefully on March 20th, 2025, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House Aldersgate after battling ALS and FTD for almost 6 years. Jim was born on February 16, 1956 in Newark, New Jersey to Harry and Frances Lanno both of whom have preceded him in death.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Pamela Lanno, their two daughters, Gabriella Lanno and Nicole Lanno, in addition to his sister Kim and her husband John Clarizio together with his many loving nieces and nephews.
Jim grew up in Belleville, New Jersey and attended Seton Hall University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After graduating, Jim worked at various positions through the years where he utilized his CPA skills in Commercial and Residential Real Estate lending and after relocating to North Carolina in 2005, he continued a successful career ending in 2015 as a Vice President at Bank of America. Outside of his professional life, Jim had a passion for music beginning in his teens where he picked up his first guitar and enjoyed playing a variety of music genres such as rock and country. He then performed in various bands over the years and later on was an active member of the worship team at his church bringing his love for music and faith together.
He cherished his weekly Bible studies and was passionate about sharing the gospel with everyone he encountered. His favorite Bible verse, Proverbs 3:5-6, guided his life: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. “Jim was known for his generous spirit and would often go out of his way to help anyone in need. Whether it was offering a kind word, a listening ear, or performing acts of service, Jim’s heart was as big as his faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Joe Martin ALS Foundation, The ALS Association (ALS United NC Chapter), Levine Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate, or The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.
