James Anthony Carney, 64, of Huntersville, NC died on July 19, 2022 at the Levine-Dickson House Southminster with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Newport, RI on April 4, 1958 to the late James Joseph Carney and the late Nancy (Swist) Carney.
Jim grew up in Newport, RI and enlisted in the Army in 1976. Upon his discharge he returned to Newport for a few years before relocating to Connecticut in the late 1980’s. There he was active with Hebron EMA as a HAM radio operator. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends. He came to live in Huntersville, NC in 2018 to be closer to family.
Jim is survived by his sister, Colleen Karpovitz and his brother-in-law Thomas, niece Shannon Kendrick and her husband Austin from Knoxville, TN, niece Katrina Lawson and her husband Craig from Portsmouth RI, as well as his great nephew Dylan and great nieces Luna and Bindi. There are many more people who called him “brother” and will miss him terribly.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, 5:00 PM, at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home of Huntersville. The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 PM prior to the service. Inurnment will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, 1:00 PM, at Salisbury National Cemetery, with Military Honors.
