On a cold day, near Christmas, December 21, 1942, a baby boy was born in Midland, NC. He was given the name Jackie (Jack) Hilborn Connell. He grew to love fishing, both fresh water and then salt water. Eventually a lady came into his life that loved fishing too. An Offshore boat was purchased, and the magic of the seas were revealed for 29 years. Due to declining health from COPD, the treasured old boat was sold. On a hot summer day, August 16, 2023, he passed from his love of smoking of 63 years. He was 80 years old. His other loves were Yellow Labrador Retrievers, 3 came into his life, all named Beau. The ashes of two Labs will be buried with him. The 3rd Beau is 10 ½ years old and became more of his wife's dog. He remains to protect her.
His other loves were plants. He knew every tree and passed on his knowledge to his daughter, Tanya Hinson. He worked for Carolina Rim and Wheel for 47 years. Served in the Navy for 3 years. Jack loved everything about his 117-year-old home. His final wish was to die there. Wish granted Jack, wish granted….. In home Hospice was terrific, especially his nurse, Greg.
Surviving is his wife and 1st Mate of 31 years, Libby D. Connell; his daughter, Tanya Hinson of Indian Trail; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law that he adored, Debbie Dulin of Huntersville and Barbara McClellan of Concord.
