Ishmael Blu Mumin-Stith, a radiant soul full of life and joy, went to be with the Lord on November 30, 2024 at just 20 months old. Though his time on earth was brief, Ishmael’s impact on everyone he met was profound and unforgettable.
Bourn on March 30, 2023, Ishmael immediately filled the lives of his parents, Tamekia Wesson and Dyru Stith, with immeasurable happiness. His contagious laughter, vibrant personality, and boundless curiosity touched the hearts of all who knew him. His family and friends alike, know him as “Ish” and he would become the heartbeat of Charlotte, NC. Ishmael was a blessing – a precious gift from God who brought light into the lives of his family and friends. Whether it was the sparkle in his eyes or the joy in his playful giggles, Ishmael reminded us all of the beauty and wonder of life.
To his sisters, he was “Big Ish”, exuding a level of intelligence beyond what any “little” brother should. With what most would see or interpret as a limitation, Ish would prove to be the boss and not “little” at all. He knew when it was time to put his shoes on and somehow figured out how to call his sister’s name on cue. If that wasn’t enough, his daily shopping sprees with his father would certainly make him the “Ish” at all the mall, as business owners waited on him to make his expected appearances to shop with his dad. Could there be anything funnier than an infant who knew what time he took a shower each day? If you knew Ish, you knew he loved some water! He awakened at the same time each day to pray and spend time with the Lord, alongside his mother. In the midnight hour is when he’d have his best praise service and then wait until 8 a.m. for his shower. He would then take his daily nap and prepare to terrorize his siblings- he was the real boss.
“Ish” was predeceased by his parental grandfather, Stephen McGill. He leaves behind a legacy of love and joy, cherished by his parents, Tamekia Wesson and Dyru Stith; sisters, Essynce, Khaliha, Emalei, Khloe, Malente’ and Tishay; brothers Deon and Dyru; parental grandparents Helener Scott and Don Stith; maternal grandmother, Dr. Sylvia McGill-Hornsby; godmother Kandi Thomas, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and everyone fortunate enough to have been in his presence. Through our hearts ache with his passing, we find comfort knowing he is now held in the loving arms of the Lord.
While Ishamel’s time with us was short, the love he shared will remain in our hearts forever. Rest in peace Ishmael. You were and will always be a precious angel.
