Rev. Dr. Hugh A. Maddry Jr., 73, of Huntersville, NC left this earthly life on January 11, 2014 at Novant Health Charlotte to begin his new life with his Heavenly Father. Hugh was born October 7, 1940 in Durham, NC to the late Hubert and Mary Louise Shields Maddry. Dr. Maddry was appointed to the position of Director, National VA Chaplain Center in Hampton, VA., and was awarded the Meritorious Service Award honoring his 36 years of service as a Chaplain in the Department of Veterans Affairs. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his beloved family. Hugh is survived by his loving wife, Janet T. Maddry; sons Paul Maddry and wife Kristen of Naples, FL, Mark Maddry and fiancé Shanna Zappa of Lee's Summit, MO; daughters Rebekah Baker of Huntersville, NC and Sarai Austin of Bixby, OK; grandchildren, Andrew, Justin, Hunter, Emmilie Grace, and William along with several extended family members and many friends and colleagues. The family will receive friends on Thursday January 16, 2014 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm at Huntersville United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.
