Helen Horne Hunter of Cornelius formerly of Charlotte died Sunday, Jan. 25th at her home surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born in Stedman, NC on June 10, 1930 and was the oldest of 6 children born to Charles Alton and Inez Davis Horne. Helen worked with civil services in Charlotte until the birth of her second child, at which time the family moved to Alcoa/Maryville, TN. The family then returned to Charlotte with 4 children where Helen was a homemaker until all of the children were in school at which time she worked part time until she joined Belk Store services architectural department where she retired at age 65 after 17 years of service. Helen's hobbies included gardening, sewing, and cooking. Her greatest joy was her 4 grandchildren. Helen is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, James S. (Lefty), and 2 daughters, Carole Spivey of Darien, CT, and her children Katherine and Charles and Janice Banks of Davidson, NC and her children Jack and Sydney. She is preceded in death by 2 children, Robert Hunter and Lisa Hunter Hinson, and 2 brothers Latha and Tommy Horne of Stedman. Surviving are brother Billy Horne and sisters Joanne McAlphin, and Sue West and many nieces and nephews. Helen was a very caring and unselfish mother, friend, and wife. She always put others needs in front of her own. She was loved by all who knew her! Helen was a long time member of St. Martins Episcopal Church , 1510 E 7th St in Charlotte where the service will be held at 2:00 on Friday, Jan. 30th with a reception following. The family wants to say a special thanks to "Visiting Angel" Marie as well as all of the Hospice caregivers, especially Crystal, Jill, and Hortensia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or Mecklenburg Association for the Blind or St. Martin's Episcopal Church,1510 E 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
