Mrs. Helen Roberts Haynes, 77, of Newton , NC passed away Friday, November 26, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. Born September 28, 1933 in Mobile, Alabama she was a daughter of the late Robert Gordon Roberts and Amanda Louise Tillman Roberts. She was an excellent baker, loved to cook for her family and many friends and enjoyed sewing, quilting and intricate hand work. Affectionately known as The Queen she leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, John W. Haynes Jr.; son, John W. Haynes III (Tracy) of Spruce Pine, NC; daughters, Pamela Louise Pigue (David) of Melrose, Fl, Jody Lynn Brotherton (Allen) of Denver, NC, Hedy Leigh Haynes (Fred Norchi) of Charlotte; grandchildren, Matthew and Ryan Haynes, Melissa, Aaron and Hollie Pigue, Haynes and Gray Brotherton; great grandchildren, Everett and Madyson Haynes; brothers, Gordon Roberts (Verna) of Trussville, Ala, Jerry Roberts of Jacksonville Fl; sisters, Jo Ann Wellborn (Bill) of Fairhope, Ala, Susan Miles and Carol Roberts of Crystal River, Fl. The family would like to thank Dr. Mitchell and his staff at Southern Oncology Specialists for Helens extraordinary care for over ten years; the nurses and CNAs in the West Wing at Abernethy Laurels for their care and compassion in her final days. A heartfelt thank you to Helen and Johns wonderful neighbors, Janet and Charlie, for the love and support of our family and to Chaplain Larry Bolick for his deep devotion and spiritual support of Helen and her family and friends during the recent weeks. Memorial services will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Saturday December 4, 2010 in the Chapel of Raymer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Road Suite 200 , Charlotte , NC 28210 or the Hospice Organization in your area.
