Gungor Mustafa Solmaz, 77, of Denver, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on August 19, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital, Huntersville, NC. He was born on November 30, 1933 in Ankara, Turkey, son of the late Selahattin and Azize Solmaz. Gungor was a very successful business owner in the textile industries, starting in Charlotte, including Claremont and Newton, NC and Pontotoc, MS. In addition, he was known for his philanthropic efforts, business and technical prowess, and passion for helping others. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years; Diana Solmaz, daughters, Rezan Solmaz and Laura Alghothani and her husband Dr. Nael Alghothani, son, Kent Solmaz and his wife Anette. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Cristina Solmaz, Steven Solmaz, Kari Solmaz, and Nelson Alghothani. In addition, he is survived by his stepmother Nermin Solmaz, stepsister Ebru Germiyano?lu, and nephew Cem Germiyano?lu. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service, 10:00 a.m.to 11 a.m. at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Ron Taylor, Rector of the Episcopal Church of St. Peter by-the-Lake in Denver, North Carolina officiating. Burial will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens located in Huntersville, NC. The family would like to thank; Carolina BioOncology Cancer Therapy & Research Center headed by Dr. John Powderly and his staff, the second floor ICU staff at Presbyterian Hospital, Huntersville, NC, and the numerous doctors and nurses who administered care during his illness.
