Grace Carol Meade White

Grace Carol Meade White, devoted and loving wife and mother passed peacefully away at age 94 on September 29, 2017 in Davidson, NC at The Pines. She was born in Ashland, Kentucky on May 5, 1923 to parents Susan Ann Lanham and John Franklin Meade. She graduated from Ashland schools and Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. Carol was married for 67 wonderful years to Henry Edmunds White. She and Ed met in a Richmond church where Ed was attending the service led by his father Dr. Locke White Sr. and Carol was singing in the choir. Carol and Ed were married in 1945, and lived in Rome, Georgia where they taught at Darlington Preparatory School. Carol and Ed then moved to Columbia, South Carolina to teach high school. In 1953 they moved to Davidson where Ed was employed by Davidson College and Carol began her long and devoted teaching career in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Many of her teaching years were spent at Davidson Elementary School where she utilized her many creative talents with her students. To this day, many of her former students speak affectionately of her and over the years visited with her at the Pines. Active in the community, Carol was an Elder at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School for years. She was also Moderator of Presbyterian Women and was honored with a Life Membership in Presbyterian Women. She served as President of the Davidson Garden Club and the Centennial Book Club. Throughout her life Carol was very much interested in art and enjoyed both drawing and painting in multiple mediums. She won awards for many of her art works over the years.

Memorial Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14 at Davidson College Presbyterian Church with Lib McGregor-Simmons officiating. Reception at the Congregation House to immediately follow the service.

Carol is predeceased by her husband and eldest son Henry Edmunds White Jr. She is survived by her daughter Susan, son Locke and three grandchildren, Hope, Katherine, and Jordan. She is predeceased by her two brothers, William Meade and Jack Meade.

The family is very grateful for the loving care given to Carol by the nurses and staff at The Pines.
