He joined the Air Force in 1956 and served as a radar technician at Otis Air Force base in Buzzards Bay, MA to patrol the Atlantic Coast from MA to Bermuda.  While in the Air Force, he met his wife, Nancy, who was also enlisted in the Air Force at the same base.

After their service, they moved back to Charlotte/Mint Hill and worked as an appliance repairman for Home Appliance, a television and electronics technician for Philco, and then as a parts and warranty manager for Brown-Rogers-Dixon in Winston-Salem.  In 1984, he and Nancy bought Harvey’s Auto Parts, and ran the parts house until their retirement.  His wide range of skills allowed him to diagnose and repair almost any type of engine, appliance, or electronic equipment as well as all aspects of construction.

Without question, Gene considered his family, his greatest achievement. He led them by example, to live a strong Christian life as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed old tractors, NASCAR, and being everyone’s go to guy when they needed to know how to do most anything. He will always be truly loved and missed by all.
