Mr. Gene Douglas Clark, 77 of Concord, NC died Saturday November 5, 2011 at his residence. Born January 26, 1934 in Gastonia NC he was a son of the late Edward C and Clara F. Clark. He attended Gastonia secondary schools, graduated from Gastonia High School in 1952 and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a BS in Business. In June 1956 he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and enter active duty in August 1956. Upon completion of Pilot training he was assigned to the Strategic Air Command, 2nd Air Refueling Squadron at Hunter AFB, Savannah GA. He served as Pilot of a KC-97 aerial tanker until released from active duty in October 1960. He was promoted to Captain while in the Reserves and discharged in June 1964. Mr. Clark began a 37 year career with First Union National Bank which included working as an Account officer, real estate developer, real estate credit approver and Senior Vice President of real estate for First Union Corporation. He retired in July 1997 to become a full time assistant housekeeper. There were numerous clubs and social groups over the years, but the most rewarding was his association with Lake Norman Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday November 9 at Lake Norman Baptist Church with Dr. C. Michael Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Church Cemetery Huntersville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 at the church. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Norma Dixon Clark; sons, Dwight Clark and wife Kelly of Santa Cruz, CA, Jeff Clark and wife Debra of Richlands, NC; sister, Nancy Taylor of Gastonia; grandchildren, Casey Clark Harrold of Albany, NY, Riley Clark and Mac Clark of Charlotte, Stetson and Kirsten Clark of Richlands, NC; great grandson, Lincoln James Harrold. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lake Norman Baptist Church, 7921 Sam Furr Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.
