Frederick Virgint

March 19, 1937 — May 21, 2016

Frederick Arthur Virgint, 79, a resident of Cornelius, died unexpectedly on Saturday May 21.

He was born in Toronto, Ontario, on March 19, 1937 to Stanley and Ethel Virgint, and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  He was the third eldest of 10 children.

Mr. Virgint joined the Royal Canadian Navy at 16, and served for 14 years.   He was trained as a meteorologist, served during the Korean War, and conducted weather research following its conclusion.  Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he moved to New York, earned a Bachelor’s Degree and began a career with First National City Bank.  A lifelong learner, he received advanced leadership training at Wabash University, and was promoted to Vice President with Citibank in 1975.  In 1980, he founded the first of several construction companies, successfully completing several large building projects in the metro area before retiring.

He met his future wife Kristine Brewer, of Xenia, Ohio, while living in New York. They were married on January 30, 1988.  After their family moved to North Carolina in 2006, Mr. Virgint was active in raising his children and enhancing his community.  He served as the President of the Crown Harbor Homeowners Association for 9 years.  Making use of his many years of construction management experience, he took great pride in designing and overseeing construction of the Crown Harbor Clubhouse in Cornelius.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kristine and sons Robert and Stanley of Cornelius; his son Dwayne and daughter-in-law Jacqueline, of Corrales, NM; brothers Douglas, Daniel, Roderick, Stephen, Phillip, and sisters Ethel and Evelyn, all residing in Canada; and many extended family members and close friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 25, at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville.  A memorial reception will follow at the Crown Lake Club House at 21659 Crown Lake Drive in Cornelius.
