Frederick Shields

Frederick “Rick” Andrew Shields, 70, of Cornelius, NC passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on December 9, 2017.  Rick was born January, 14, 1947 in New Rochelle, NY to the late Julian Wadsworth Shields and Kathryn Wolf Shields. 

Rick was a retired mortgage banker and an active partner at Grace Covenant Church.  Rick loved the Lord.  He had a heart for others and touched the lives of many through his gift of service.  Rick will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather “Andy”, brother, mentor and friend.  He will be dearly missed by everyone that had the honor of knowing him.  “The measure of a life is not its duration, but its donation.”

Rick is survived by his wife, Jane Davis Shields; daughters, Ashley Shields Wilder and her husband Don of Cornelius, Elizabeth Shields Austin and her husband Charlie of Huntersville; grandchildren, Hannah Wilder, Davis Wilder, Alex Austin and Andrew Austin; sisters, Barbara Gauden, and Carolyn Shields; brother, David Shields and his wife Laurie; nephews, Donald Gauden and Bryan Shields and his wife Jen and sister-in-laws Betty Joe Hobeika and Mary Ann Barnes.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11am at Grace Covenant Church.  A reception will follow the service in Clanton Hall. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rick can be made to Grace Covenant Church.
