Frank D. Earp

January 30, 1937 — October 4, 2018

Mr. Frank D. Earp, age 81, of Huntersville, NC, entered into eternal rest on October 4th, 2018 after an extended illness.

Frank was born on January 30, 1937 at the home of his parents, the late John Merritt Earp and Janie Barker Earp in Mint Hill, North Carolina. Along with his father and brothers, Frank helped build and was baptized at Mint Hill Baptist Church in Mint Hill, North Carolina. Frank attended Bain Elementary School in Mint Hill, North Carolina and East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina before enlisting in the United States Navy. Frank was an avid UNC Tarheels basketball fan; he loved bluegrass, gospel, and old timey beach and blues music; watching old western movies and reading cowboy novels. In the winter, Frank enjoyed giving out scarves and hats to everyone; wherever he was at, whether he knew them or not, as a way to show he cared and to work his way into peoples’ hearts because he never met a stranger.

Frank had a special place in his heart and spoke with great fondness for the servers at Showmar’s and Hardees in Huntersville, NC and especially loved the time he spent with his friends in the "Wednesday Morning Hardees Breakfast Club!" He spoke so often and appreciated so much the kindness and friendship they showed him over the years.

Frank was preceded in death by his brothers: Walter, JZ, Troy, Louis, William, and Bob; and sisters: Marie, Kaye, and Jean.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Julia Earp of Huntersville, North Carolina; his daughters: Sandy Burleson (and husband Morris) of Asheville, North Carolina; Toni Shaw (and husband Martin) of Oak Island, North Carolina; and Sonya Jansen (and husband Chris) of Union County, North Carolina; and stepsons: Eddie Karam (and wife Jill) of Huntersville, North Carolina; and Greg Karam (and wife Terri) of Huntersville, North Carolina; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom he was so proud; along with other family and friends. Frank was also survived by his brother Ted Earp of Goldsboro, North Carolina; and sister Barbara Atkinson of St. Cloud, FL.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville.  A graveside service will follow at 2:30 pm on Saturday, October 6th, 2018 at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery, Cornelius.

Frank will be missed by all of the people who loved him dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Hospice House of Huntersville, NC or Huntersville United Methodist Church.
