Everette Simion Pigg

August 23, 1931 — January 17, 2019

Everette Simion Pigg, 87, of Midland, died on the night of January 17, 2019. He was born in Charlotte and grew up in Midland, N.C.  He was born the son of the late Murray and Beatrice Pigg.  After his mother’s death, his father remarried the late Foda Pigg, whom was a loving mother to Everette for many years.

Following his graduation from Bethel School in Midland, NC; he then attended Wingate Jr. College on a Basketball scholarship for 2 years, where he is now a member of the “Hall of Fame”.  He then went on to play at Furman University where he played his Jr. and Sr. year, also on a scholarship.  Everette graduated with his Bachelor in Physical Education with a minor in biology.  Years later, at age 40, Everette attended UNCC and received his Master’s in Guidance and Counseling. 

Everette was The Basketball Coach and a Teacher at North-Mecklenburg High School from which he retired after 32 years. Everette and Claire Pigg are also members of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Midland, N.C. for many years.

One of Coach Pigg’s greatest accomplishments, along with his friend, Neild Gordon founded Camp Chatuga in Mountain Rest, S.C., where he spent over 40 years building and directing. Today 1000’s of kids continue to attend each year.  Coach worked very hard at the camp and impacted everyone’s life he touched and remains an owner today.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brothers, Myron and Lanny Pigg.  Everette is survived by his wife of 62 years, Claire Pigg; his only Son, David Pigg; his brother Jack Pigg; his Grandson Grant Pigg; and his nephews and nieces; Chad and Lee, Shannon and Miriam.

A viewing will be held in honor of his life on Monday evening, January 21st at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home at 6-8pm.  The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm at the Funeral home as well.
