Evelyn LaVale Jones

Evelyn LaVale Duckworth Jones, 96, of Stanley, North Carolina passed away January 27, 2021.

She was born in Lincoln County on June 30, 1924 to the late Shelton Duckworth and Lucy Hager Duckworth.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clifton "Buck" Jones; son, Ryan Jones; brothers, Harlow Duckworth, A.O. Duckworth, and Plato Duckworth; and sisters, Nellie Duckworth, Ruby Dellinger, and Louise Jones.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Treva Mills (Michael), Grier Jones, and Wesley Jones; granddaughter, Janna Mills Huggins (Ryan); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn had a very special place in her heart for children, and worked in the nursery at Hills Chapel Church Child Development Center for over 25 years.  Parents and children still refer to her as "Mamaw Evelyn".  Above all, she loved and cherished her family more than anything in this world.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM, also at the funeral home.  

Pallbearers are Gilbert Mashburn, Shelton Duckworth, Neal Allen, Ryan Huggins, Mike Mills, and Art Howard.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to her caregiver and friends, Debbie Houk, Rosie Robinson, and Liz Farrish, as well as physical therapist, Janice Springs.  They also want to thank her nurse and friend, Janet Goughenour for the love and care she provided Evelyn for over three years.  Evelyn was well loved and will be missed by all.

Memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn's memory to Martha's Chapel Cemetery in care of Donna Moose, 1244 Killian Farm Rd., Stanley, NC 28164.
