Eugene Dale Metzler

EUGENE DALE METZLER, 91, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 16, 2022.  Gene was born on April 12, 1930, to Edward and Gertrude (Johnson) Metzler in Rockford, Illinois.  Gene graduated from Rockford East High School in 1947.  He was a member of the first baseball team at East High School.  After graduation, Gene served in the U.S. Army in Korea, receiving many awards for his honorable service. He married Marilyn Brobeck of Rockford and worked at Sundstrand for 35 years. 

Gene had many friends in Rockford playing on multiple sport teams, Rockford Blackhawks Basketball Club, bowling, and baseball teams. He also was a member of the Sundstrand Steak Club. Gene and Marilyn retired in Largo, FL where they spent 32 wonderful years; an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast, enjoying especially the Tampa Bay Rays and life-long Chicago Cubs fan.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn and son-in-law, Kevin Morrow.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Kris Morrow of Winchester, WI; son, Michael Metzler (Beth Peterson) of Beaufort, NC; Four grandsons Eric (Jessica) Morrow of Lantana, TX; Brian (Laura) Morrow of Rockford, IL; Andrew (Dawn) Metzler of Cornelius, NC, and Jeffrey (Kristen) Metzler of Mooresville, NC.  Five great-grandchildren Miles, Maxwell, and Monroe Morrow of Lantana, TX; and Jacob and Henry Metzler of Mooresville, NC.

Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home of Huntersville, NC is assisting the family. www.raymerfh.com.   While there will not be a formal service, the immediate family will have a celebration of life locally.  Our family would like to thank the many incredible healthcare professionals who cared for Gene over the years at Ransom Ridge Assisted Living and recently in Olde Knox Commons and Hospice in Huntersville, NC.
