After her courageous battle with breast cancer, Emily Cooper joined her Savior on December 18th, 2011, at the age of 69. She met her illness in the same way that she lived her life, with cheerfulness and humor, aiming to put a smile on others' faces. Born in Pittsburgh to her beloved parents Joseph R. and Jane M. (Jennie) Powell, she moved to Charlotte at age 6. She graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School, attended Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, graduated from Queens College in Charlotte with Bachelor's degrees in Biology and Art, and was employed as a Medical Illustrator. Her lifelong passions included canvas and needle arts, and in her earlier years, writing and music. Her love of horses lasted throughout her life. She was a strong woman who was loved by her family and all who met her. In her later years she became a committed member of Hope of Israel Congregation and loved her role as a prayer warrior. She shared her tremendous love of her Savior with all who would listen. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Cooper. She is survived by her sister Janie Jones and brother-in-law Jack of Charlotte; her brother Joseph Powell of Houston; her daughter Bridget Maguire of Charlotte; her daughter Deirdre Mladsi and son-in-law Scott, of Cary; her son Ian Maguire and daughter-in-law Loretta, of Charlotte; and 8 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Hope of Israel Congregation, Charlotte NC Monday, December 19, at 7pm.
