It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elmer Emerson Kunkle, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a truly exceptional individual. Elmer's journey on this earthly plane came to a peaceful end on July 23, 2023, in Huntersville, North Carolina, where he touched the lives of many.

Elmer was born on January 14, 1937, in Camden, Arkansas. From his earliest years, it was clear that he possessed a remarkable intellect and an unwavering determination to seize every opportunity that came his way. This drive for excellence led him to Texas A&M University, where he pursued his education with great passion. While there, he served as the Squadron 13 Commanding Officer and was a member of the Ross Volunteers Honor Society. Graduating from Texas A&M was just the beginning of Elmer's extraordinary achievements.

In his military service as a B-52 Radar Navigator in the United States Air Force, Elmer displayed not only courage but also an unwavering dedication to duty. Serving for 24 years and rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he exemplified the Air Force values of integrity and service. His commitment to his country was truly commendable.

In addition to his military career, Elmer embarked on a successful professional journey as an internal auditor at Arkla Gas (Noram) before retiring for a second time after 15 years of dedicated service. His meticulous attention to detail and analytical skills garnered him respect and admiration from colleagues and employers alike.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Elmer cherished his role as a family man. He was a devoted husband to Mae Frances Braswell Kunkle and together they shared a lifetime filled with love and cherished memories. Elmer deeply cared for his children Gary Monroe Kunkle (Monique) and Cynthia Lynn Ferree (Chuck). His grandchildren Caitlyn Kunkle, Megan Kunkle, Lars Kunkle, and Victoria Ferree brought immense joy to his life. Elmer's love knew no bounds, and he embraced the responsibility of being a loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather with open arms.

Elmer encompassed all the qualities of a truly remarkable individual. His sense of humor was infectious, bringing laughter to those around him even in difficult times. He had a zest for life that was evident in his hobbies and interests, such as hunting, fishing, and refinishing furniture. Elmer's warm personality drew people to him, and he had a special way of making everyone feel valued and appreciated.

In his community at Hopewell Baptist Church in Davidson, North Carolina, Elmer found solace and purpose. He actively participated in church events and cherished the bonds he formed within the congregation. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, providing him with strength throughout his journey.

Elmer will always be remembered as a loving son to the late Elmer Emerson Kunkle Sr. and Hattie Grace Hood Kunkle. He held a special place in his heart for his late sister Maxine Norman. Elmer's remarkable legacy also lives on through the joyful memories shared with nieces Adrienne Norman and Christina Norman, nephew Jim Norman, brother-in-law Bill Braswell (Susan), and cherished caregiver Paula Walsh.

The funeral services honoring Elmer's life will take place on August 12, 2023, at Hopewell Baptist Church located at 18841 Davidson-Concord Rd in Davidson, North Carolina. The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Interment with full military honors will be held following the services in the church cemetery.

Elmer's departure leaves an indescribable void in our lives; however, we find solace in knowing that he lived a life filled with love, purpose, and accomplishment. May we carry his memory in our hearts, finding comfort and inspiration in the way he lived his life to the fullest.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Elmer's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, or Hopewell Baptist Church - Youth Mission Fund to continue his legacy of compassion and service.

Elmer's light will continue to shine in our hearts, guiding us in the years to come. He will forever be remembered as a beacon of love, strength, and humor. Let us celebrate his life and cherish the memories we shared with him. Elmer Emerson Kunkle, Jr., may you rest in eternal peace.
