Elizabeth (Betty) Jarrell Johnson passed away at her home in Huntersville, NC on Wednesday, May 11, 2016. She was 84. Betty was born in Sylvania, GA and lived in Savannah, GA for most of her life until 2001 when she moved to be closer to her daughter, Susan.
Betty graduated from Commercial High School in Savannah and went to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1951. She worked in many positions from Clerk Stenographer to Chief of Recruitment and Placement to Personnel Management Specialist when she retired in 1987. She received numerous medals and commendations during her career including the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. She valued the opportunity to help people find employment, many of whom wrote letters and notes of gratitude over the years. Betty was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Savannah. She loved watercolor painting and the friendship of her fellow painters. She also loved musicals, animals and her roses. She always saw the beauty in the simplest things.
Betty is pre-deceased by her parents, William Jefferson Jarrell and Eva Mytlene Jarrell, and five older brothers, Burton, Woodrow, Thomas, Russell, and Edward Jarrell.
Betty is survived by her daughter Susan Elizabeth Johnson; nieces Claire Jarrell, MaryAnn Stapleton, Lorri Jarrell, Jan Anderson; nephews David Jarrell, Mark Jarrell, Chris Jarrell; and many other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville. Family and friends will gather following the service at Betty’s home.
