Born in Chapel Hill (actually Duke University Hospital) on August 8, 1943 the daughter of Charles and Frances Weaver Bartlett. She moved to Gainesville, FL in 1954, then to Ocala, FL in 1959 where she graduated from Ocala H.S. in 1961. She got her Associate’s degree from Central Florida Junior College and Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from the University of Florida. She was employed throughout the following 15 years in various medical and biological research labs at the University of Florida, Auburn University, and University of Florida Agricultural Research Facility (IFIS).
Betsy married her college sweetheart from the University of Florida in 1966 at Hollywood Hills UMC. She and her husband Curt had a daughter (Anne, 1969) and a son (Chris, 1973) before settling down in Mobile, AL in 1979. Later she was an active volunteer in hospital auxiliaries serving as President of the auxiliary at Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL and gift shop manager at South Cobb Hospital in Marietta, GA where she introduced a computer based sales and inventory system and increased the shop’s profitability. She ended her active employment at Sweet Spirit, a Christian book and gift shop in Marietta, GA.
She relocated with her husband to Concord, NC in 2012 to be closer to her four grandchildren. She became an active member of Mt Zion UMC, participating in the voice and bell choirs. She accompanied the choir to New York City to perform at Lincoln Center by invitation to showcase a new suite of music by composer Pepper Choplin. One of her proudest accomplishments was her acceptance into the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and her patriot was Jonas Lipe from Cabarrus County (NC). Betsy leaves a legacy of Christian love and grace that is sure to be passed on by everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Beverly Carlman. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dr Curt P. Beeman, daughter Anne Strong, son Chris, four grandchildren (Sarah and James Strong, Sam and Sophie Beeman), brother Dr Charles S. Bartlett, and sister Barbara Foster.
Donations can be made in her honor to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) and Hospice & Palliative Care (Charlotte Region).
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 28th at 2 PM at Mt Zion UMC in Cornelius, NC. Flowers (which she loved) may be sent to the church.
