Edith Fitch Christian

Mrs. Edith Fitch Christian, 90, of Davidson, NC, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully Sunday June 19, 2011. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her. Born February 2, 1921 in Shelby, NC, she was a daughter of the late William F. Fitch and Lelia Self Fitch.

Mrs. Christian studied nursing at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte and placed first in the State Nursing Board exam. A registered nurse, she retired from Davidson College Student Health after 27 years of service. She served as head camp nurse at YMCA Camp Thunderbird, Lake Wylie, SC for over 30 years. In honor of her many years of service, the camp infirmary was dedicated in her name.

Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday, June 23 in Lingle Chapel, Davidson College Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Tiemann officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, John William Christian and his sons, Clay and Taylor Christian of Davidson and Paul Alan Christian of Charlotte; sisters, Betty Edwards and Andrea McSwain (John); sisters-n-law, Joyce and Dorothy Fitch; brother-in-law, Bob Dycus, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband H. J. Chris Christian in 1969, and by two brothers and two sisters.
