Dr. Richard Hardy Maley, Sr. MD, 85, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully Friday October 23, 2015 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville, NC. Dr. Dick Maley was born August 22, 1930 in Wilkinsburg, PA and lived in Pittsburgh, PA until relocating to Charlotte, NC in 2009. A graduate of Baldwin High School in 1948, and the University of Pittsburgh in 1952, he then continued on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School in 1956. Dr. Maley was a Senior Assistant Surgeon for the Reserve Corps of Public Health Services from 1956 to 1959. He maintained a family practice in Pleasant Hills for over 40 years and was head of geriatric care for Jefferson Convalescent home. Dr. Maley served on the medical staff of Jefferson Hospital and was their first medical staff President. He was a member of the Medical Society of Allegheny County, along with being a member of the Allegheny County Grand Lodge AF & AM of Pennsylvania for over 50 years. He was a long time member of South Hills Country Club where he enjoyed his great love of golf. Along with his parents, Warren Ransome Maley and Mildred Hardy Maley, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Warren Edward Maley and great-grandson, Andrew Allen Steen. Dr. Maley leaves to cherish his memory, his loving family; wife of 60 years, Marie Olinsky Maley; sister, Janice Graci (Sam); sister-in-law, Ruth Maley; daughters, Sherie Burns (Ken) of Wheeling, WV, Mimi Paffenroth of Kansas City, MO; sons, Dr. Warren Maley (Meighan) of Philadelphia, Dr. Rick Maley, Jr. (Julie) of Pittsburgh; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
