Dorothy A. Busen, known as “Dot”, passed away peacefully at Levine-Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC on May 18, 2018.
She was born on August 6, 1933 to the late Bertha (Patton) Schmidt and Albert Schmidt in McKittrick, Missouri. She grew up in Hermann, MO and graduated high school in 1951. On August 23, 1958, she married Frank “Gene” E. Busen.
Dot is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Frank “Gene” E. Busen; son Jeffrey Busen of Charlotte, NC; daughters Lori Leighton (Jay) of Charlotte, NC and Judith Perry of Cornelius, NC.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother Marvin Schmidt; sisters Darlene Kattelmann and Irma Stiers; and a dear son-in-law Gaylord “Jack” J. Perry.
Dot’s primary focus in life was being a homemaker. She also worked as a legal secretary and in newspaper advertising.
She was a social person and remembered as an adept planner of parties, vacations, and trips. She was a good cook and had a special knack for recognizing recipes that her family would enjoy. She had her favorite recipes and for years could remember which of her cookbooks and food magazines held those recipes. With her husband, Gene, she enjoyed years of square-dancing with the “Sardis Stars” in Charlotte.
No services will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
