Doris Evelyn Cooke

July 20, 1919 — December 2, 2013

Doris Evelyn Judson Cooke, 94, of Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away on December 2, 2013, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Howard Cooke. Born in the Bronx, NY, she grew up in Glen Rock, NJ, graduated from Centenary College (NJ), and spent the majority of her life in New York and New Jersey before moving with her husband to Virginia and later to North Carolina. She will be missed by her children, Bette Naglak (George) of Hainesport, NJ, Susan Kelley (John) of Princeton Junction, NJ, and Richard (Susan) of Davidson, NC. Her grandchildren, Brian Kelley (Julie Medalis), Denise Raymond, and Alison, Lindsay and Erin Cooke will miss her greatly as will her great-grandchildren, Olivia and Adam Kelley and Aidan, Mackenzie and Dylan Raymond. She is also survived by her sister Muriel Grigg of Villanova, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews. Doris will be remembered for her beautiful knitting and cross-stitch, her steadfast love and sense of humor, her impressive self-reliance, and her faithful support of the Davidson College baseball program. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Christian Wolff of Lakeside Family Physicians for his many years of exceptional care and to the loving angels at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House for their remarkable attention to Doris at the end of her life. A memorial service will be held at Davidson College Presbyterian Church at 5:00 pm on Monday, December 16, 2013, followed by a gathering of family and friends in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the DuBose Baseball Scholarship at Davidson College, Box 7174, Davidson 28035.
