Mrs. Doris Elizabeth Barber, 76, passed away peacefully at Presbyterian Hospice on April 27, 2022.
Born in 1945 in Wilmington, NC to the late Sinic W. Staton and Mary Cannon Staton, Doris was one of nine children born to the family.
Formally educated in Wilmington, NC, where she met and married James P. Riley and had three children. The family lived in Bronx, NY a few years before Doris and the children returned to Wilmington, NC.
In 1979, Doris relocated to Charlotte, NC when she met and married John H. Barber. Doris also began her career in radiology and coding at Carolinas Medical Center, where she retired.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, John H. Barber; her beloved son, Bradford Riley; sisters, Ruth Whitted and Oweeta Shands; brothers, Sinic W. Staton Jr. and Chris D. Staton; and stepchildren, Sue Barber, Hal Barber, and Gary Barber.
Doris was a beautiful and bright shining light who was beloved by all. She leaves to cherish her memory, son, James W. Riley of the home; daughter, Kimberly Riley Foster (Jeffrey) of Charlotte, NC; stepchildren, Carolyn Mobley, Billy Barber, and Johnny Ray Barber all of Waxhaw, NC; grandsons, John Riley of the home, Frederick Montgomery of Charlotte, NC, Raymond A. Riley of Southport, NC, Jeffery L. Foster, Jr. (Dominique) of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Minnie Shelby, Detroit, MI, Emily Foy Castle of Hayne, NC, Alice Davis (James) of Wilmington, NC, Cynthia White (Calvin) of Beaufort, NC; four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
