Donald Lee Hutto, (1945-2017), 72 years old, was born on December 7, 1945 and was known to his family and friends as Donnie. After a lengthy battle with cancer, Donnie went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 15, 2017.
In January, 1966, Donnie joined the Army. After making SP-E5 in October of 1967, Donnie’s last duty assignment was BTRY A 5 BN 1ARTY USAREUR (Germany). He was active in the Reserves until his honorable discharge in January, 1972. After returning from Germany in 1968, he met his best friend and loving wife of 49 years, Sandra Seay Hutto (Sandy). He had two children, Brian Hutto (Jodi) of Stanley, NC; Candy Youngblood (Wrye) of Huntersville, NC.
Donnie attended CPCC for 5 years earning a Journeyman degree in Pipefitting and Welding. He was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #96, now Local #421 with 40+years of service. Donnie also taught apprentice welding classes at the Union hall. After retiring from the Union, he went to work for his son’s company, B-Organized Insulation and Specialty Products Company until his final retirement.
Donnie was a hardworking family man. He loved being around family and friends, telling jokes, laughing, and having a good time. When he wasn’t watching westerns or wrestling, he would be outside whistling tunes working on his trucks, riding his John Deere tractor, golf cart or four-wheeler or just hanging out in the garage. Until his declining health no longer permitted, he especially enjoyed spending time at his beach house at Sunset Harbor in Bolivia, NC. When there, Donnie attended Faith Community Chapel surrounded by his friends and family. He loved their special music and called those who sang his “Angels of Faith.” Donnie was a member of LakeHaven Community Church in Huntersville, NC.
He was a wonderful Father and Grandfather. He loved children and was a coach for the Long Creek Optimist Club for many years. During his battle with cancer, Donnie never lost his sense of humor, uplifting spirit or positive attitude. There was never a face without a smile on it when he was in the room and he will truly be missed by everyone that knew him.
Donnie is survived by his wife, two children four grandchildren, Amberly Hutto Spencer (Jason), Paige Youngblood, Zakary Youngblood, Addi Hutto; four grandchildren by marriage, Drew Starkey, Logan Starkey, Mackayla Starkey, and Brooke Starkey; one great grandson, Colt Patrick Spencer; three sisters, Carolyn Liner (Eric), Phyllis Rogers (Harry), and Linda Greenberg (Brad) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Hutto and Marie Helms Hutto: sisters, Shirley Hutto Scism and Jacqueline Elaine Hawkins.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Hunt, Matt Lamm, Gary Mock, Mike Arthur, Garron Headen, and Dedric Robinson.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Rd, Huntersville, NC. Visitation will be Wednesday, 12/20/2017 from 6-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, 12/21/2017 at 2:00 pm with Lewis Benton of Faith Community Chapel and Barry Brookshire of Lakehaven Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens at 11001 Alexandriana Road, Huntersville, NC.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to the staff and caregivers at the Levine-Dickson Hospice House as well as others that helped care for Donnie during his illness. May God bless each of you.
