Dr. Donald Elton Cadwallader, 80, of Davidson, NC passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 11, 2012, at his residence at The Pines in Davidson, NC. He was born June 14, 1931 in Buffalo, NY to the late Donald Elton Cadwallader, Sr. and Katherine Russell Cadwallader. He resided in Athens, GA for 49 years with his wife, the late, Cecelia Vidis Cadwallader. Donald earned a BS Degree from the University of Buffalo (1953), a Master's Degree from the University of Georgia (1955), and a PhD from the University of Florida (1957). He worked for White Laboratories and Sterling-Winthrop Research Institute in his early career. He returned to Athens, GA in 1961 and served as a professor and department head in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Georgia for thirty years. He was honored upon retirement to be named as an emeritus professor. His professional memberships and honors include Sigma Xi, Rho Chi, Fellow of the American Academy of the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the American and Georgia Pharmacy Associations. He is internationally recognized for his research and was the author of numerous pharmacy related scientific journal articles, book chapters and pharmacy textbooks, which are utilized worldwide. Being the dedicated scientist that he was, he has donated his body to the Medical College of Georgia, Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy. He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Peterson of Buffalo, NY: his children, Susan and J Jones of Seal Beach, CA, Keith and Karen Cadwallader of Champagne, IL, and Lynn Badgett of Concord, NC; and his grandchildren, Myles, Dylan, and Ryan Cadwallader, and Brittany, Joseph, Caroline and Timothy Badgett. A celebration of his life will be conducted on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 4:00 pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home Chapel, Huntersville, NC with Rev. Rick Felts officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A memorial service will be held in Athens, GA at a later date.
