On Sunday, December 25. 2022. Don H. Snyder, loving spouse and father of three died at home with his wife of 60 years, Linda L. Snyder, his three sons, grandchildren, and great granddaughter at his side.

Don was born on March 25, 1941 in Washington, DC, the oldest child of Dr. Luther and Gladys Gustafson Snyder.  Don graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Washington, DC  in 1958 and went on to attend Gettysburg College, Gettysburg PA, where he majored in Business and also enrolled in R.O.T.C .  He graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant in Field Artillery.  He served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma until his discharge as a 1st Lieutenant in 1964.  Don’s lifelong career was with Sears, Roebuck and Company.  He became an executive at Sears in 1965 where he distinguished himself as a leader and mentor with an illustrious 30-year career.   He was able to relate to all who worked with and for him in a respectful, dignified manner. He never asked anyone to do a job that he would not take on himself.   Don’s working experience ran the gamut from managing a Garden Shop to Store Manager in NJ, NY, Maine and Vermont and managing Merchandise Groups in Ohio, Kentucky, Atlanta, Alabama and SC as well the North East.  

Don met his wife, Linda, while they were studying a Gettysburg and they subsequently shared sixty loving years together. Don was a loving, affectionate spouse with a great sense of humor.  Don was a man of great faith, living a life always grounded in his Lutheran faith.   A lifelog Lutheran, he willingly and enthusiastically served the churches he attended in a multiple capacities. Numerous times he was elected to positions on Church Councils, often as Council President and Chairman of the Elders.  He took his Faith seriously and accepted with joy to serve others in whatever calling his Church asked of him 

Don was a willing and able volunteer.  He had various skills and interests, and was always willing to share them.  Among those interests: trains, model railroading and every aspect of automobiles.  He worked as a volunteer on the Battenkill Railroad, Greenwich, New York and also volunteered at the Saratoga Automobile Museum, Saratoga Springs, NY.

Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Giulino Snyder, their three sons, Keith William Snyder (Julie), Douglas Scott Snyder (Kirstin) and Dr. Kenneth Luther Snyder (Ellen)  and Grandsons, Harrison, Logan, Preston, Will, Mason and  Griffin.  Two granddaughters Allison and Paige and one great granddaughter, Avery.     Also his two sisters Gail (Peter) Vendt of Rockville, Md and Lynn (David) Fairweather of Charlestown, Rhode Island and his niece and nephews.    Don was predeceased by his parents, Gladys Gustafson Snyder and Dr. Luther Henry Snyder.  

A Service will be held at Community In Christ Lutheran Church, 7621 Norman Island Drive, Cornelius, NC 28031 on Saturday, February 11. 2023 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 AM prior to the service.  Don’s cremains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations  be sent to Community In Christ Lutheran Church, 7621 Norman Island Drive, Cornelius, NC  28031 or to Lake Norman Hospice and Palliative Care Lake Norman, P.O. Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247.
