Dennis Dale Wallace, 80, of Charlotte, formerly of Monroe and Pineville, passed away on August 2, 2013 at Pineville Rehabilitation and Living Center. He was born on January 13, 1933 in Mecklenburg County and during his lifetime lived in both Mecklenburg and Union Counties. He resided in Monroe until moving to Pineville Rehab Center. He was a veteran of both the NC National Guard and regular U.S. Army, serving in the Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict and stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland. He worked at many positions during his lifetime, but the work position he loved most was with the N.C. School System in Union County. While in the nursing home he loved watching birds outside his window from two bird feeders placed there, doing word search puzzles, watching Nascar races each weekend and reminiscing of old times. Dennis will lie in state at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 1915 Oakdale Road, Charlotte, NC on Monday August 5, 2013 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Billy Towery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Dennis is survived by his brother, Donald (Gloria) of Prattville Alabama; son, Roger (Sarah) of Hudson, Florida; grandson, Rikk McMehan ( Melanie) of Mt. Holly/Stanley NC; granddaughter, Michelle Ivey of Wilson, NC; two great grandsons; plus numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his former wife, Sharon Denning of Port Richey, Florida. He was the son of the late Columbus and Ethel Wallace and predeceased by brothers, Barney, Baxter, Russell and Elwood. He's also predeceased by his companion for many years, Theresa Carroll. We want to thank the excellent staff at Pineville Rehabilitation Center for their loving care of Dennis. He dearly loved everyone there and loved calling it home. We also want to thank Hospice and Palliative Care for their love and attention.
