Dennis Deland Eddinger, 79, of Cornelius, NC passed away on April 14th 2023. Dennis was born in Franklin PA on August 8th 1943 to the late Chester and Altha Eddinger. Along with his parents Dennis is preceded in death by his sister; Velma Reid, his twin brother; Daniel and his brothers Timothy and Richard Eddinger.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Trudy S. Eddinger, two sons, Shawn and Christopher Eddinger; two grandchildren D’Lorah M. Eddinger and Timothy Eddinger; and three great grandchildren, Gabriel Scullion, Ella Bruno and Liam Bruno.
Dennis graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1961 and then attended Kent State University where he got his associate degree in 1987. He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Salem, OH in the 70s and 80s.
Dennis had many career accomplishments. He retired from General Motors after 34 years of being a supervisor for most of the time, he was one of the founders of the Perry TWP. Volunteer Fire Department in the 1970s in Salem OH, along with being one of the founders of the Harbor Bay Yacht Club in Sandusky OH. He was a manager of West Marine stores at three different locations including Boardman, Ohio, Charleston SC, and Cornelius NC where he resided.
Boating was something “Captain Denny” enjoyed to the fullest. He was still an active member of SAMS which stood for Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors. He worked for Tow Boat US for many years in Charleston SC and here at Lake Norman, NC. Along with all of that he had his own business which was called Captain Dennis Eddinger and Sons -Boat Surveys-.
Captain Denny was heavily involved with the Lake Norman boating community. He served as captain of the “Ragin Mistress” and the “Carolina Grace” for many years, along with acting as Marine Chairman and Commissioner from 2017 to 2022. He had many friends in the boating industry all around Lake Norman that will miss him dearly.
A memorial service to celebrate Dennis’ life will be held on May 6, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm.
