CHARLOTTE, NC Delaney Rose Decoste, 12, of Barbee Drive, died Friday, May 6, in Carolina Medical Center Levine Childrens Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Brunswick, ME, June 13, 1998. She is survived by her parents Stephen P. Decoste and Marti L. (Scanlon) Decoste; her brother David; Grandparents Thomas and Judy (Alkire) McDonald of Mooresville, NC; Uncle and Aunt, Kenneth A. Decoste and Laura (Yoder) Decoste of Milford, MA.; Uncle Frankie Scanlon of Mooresville, NC; Uncle and Aunt, Mark Scanlon and Catherine Scanlon; Cousins Addison, Brooks, Joey, and T.J.; and many other family members in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Delaney attended David Cox Elementary and Croft Community School prior to her near-drowning accident in August 2009. She was a beautiful, strong, caring spirit, an avid girl scout, YMCA ballet dancer, Girls on the Run and choir participant with a love for writing music and making new friends. Delaney was a vibrant, confident child who knew at an early age that her purpose on earth was to give unconditional love, hope to the world, faith, strength and remind us always that anything is possible if you just believe. Please join us in celebrating Delaneys life. Family members will receive visitors from 5:30p.m.-7:00p.m. followed by a service from 7:00p.m.-8:00p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC. Family will hold a graveside service and burial Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Avenue, Portland, ME. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: UMASS Memorial Medical Center University Campus, 55 Lake Avenue North, Worcester, MA 01655 or St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.
