Daniel "Dan" Francis Saltrick, 74, of Cornelius, NC died Saturday September 21, 2013 at Levine and Dickson Hospice House. Born June 21, 1939 in Uniontown, PA he was a son of the late Charles and Mary Krynak Saltrick. Dan gave a lifetime of service to education in Prince George's County, Maryland as a teacher, curriculum writer, principal, Director of Environmental Studies, NASA space science educator. From 1991-1995 he was assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Schools. He was most recently President of Instruction Accountability Services. His love of people was shown as he was a faithful volunteer with Loaves and Fishes, Uptown men's shelter, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Elections and his neighborhood homeowners association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Dan had a love of nature and adventure that he enjoyed sharing with his children and grandchildren. He treasures the memories of many trips with Dee. He loved nothing better than spending time with his family and friends at home or on the lake. The family will receive friends 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.Wednesday evening, Sept 25, 2013 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 507 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC. A reception will be held at the church following the Mass. The support of the priests, staff and congregation at St. Peter's Catholic Church was very important in his life. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 52 years, Dolores "Dee" Sica Saltrick; sons, Daniel C Saltrick and wife Margaret of Beaufort, SC, Eric J. Saltrick and wife Kimberly of Huntersville; daughter, Jamie Gordon and husband David of Columbia, SC; granddaughter, Jayna Saltrick; grandsons, Tyler and Andrew Gordon, Jack Saltrick; brothers, Charles and Paul; sisters, Mary Kay, Theresa and Agatha and 14 nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Summit Place (Mooresville) for their excellent care and compassion over the past two years. They would also like to thank the staff of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center (Mooresville) and Levine & Dickson Hospice (Huntersville) for helping to make the last few days peaceful for he and his family.
