Craig Rafael Martinez passed away on June 28th at 1:18 p.m. at the age of 51.He was diagnosed in May 2020 with a rare blood disease called Hereditary Cardiac ATTR Amyloidosis. He was born in Middletown CT on March 15th, 1971. He moved to Cupertino CA in elementary school and graduated from Cupertino High in 1990. Craig was a baseball catcher and continued to play at Deanza Junior College, followed by North Eastern State , OK and graduated from Western New Mexico University where he was an NAIA All American.
He moved from California to Boulder, Colorado and began his career in real estate in 1998 selling new homes. He met his wife, Robin and they got married in Puerto Rico, where Craig’s father, Rafael Martinez was from. They had CJ in 2004 and moved to North Carolina in 2007.
Craig loved all things baseball, and coached CJ at age 5-7 years old and helped on various teams after that, as well as being the assistant coach on his 8th grade school baseball team. He and Robin each owned Harley Davidson motorcycles and loved to ride through the mountains of Colorado. Craig was a very passionate person who enjoyed many hobbies, such as tattoos, building motorcycles, building cars, collecting watches, and knives. He loved his Crossfit gym and the friends he made there, as well as the friends he and Robin made during CJ’s 10 years of playing baseball.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Robin; his 18 year old son, CJ; his mother Sue Moore Potter; brother Scott Martinez; Mother-in-Law, Nancy; Sister-in-law, Andrea; Brother-in-law, Tim and niece, Isabel.
A celebration of life service will be held 1:00 on Saturday, July 9th, 2022 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC. Following the service, there will be a catered reception.
