The eternal spirit of Craig Allen Guthrie returned to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 13, 2018. A loving husband and father, Craig’s unexpected earthly departure from Cornelius, North Carolina, has created a void in the hearts of all who knew him best.
He is survived by Marilyn, his cherished wife of 29 years, and their sons Joshua (25) and Jacob (14). Craig was born in a Colorado Army hospital to his now-grieving parents, William A. Guthrie and Susan B. Tate. His death is also intensely felt by sister, Jayne McDaniel, brother, Geoff Guthrie and five nephews and nieces. The pain felt by these and so many others at the loss of Craig is a testament to a life well-lived.
While family was Craig’s primary focus, he also modeled a life of passionate and selfless service to his nation and community. Petty Officer First-Class Guthrie proudly served around the globe for 13 years in the United States Navy. Sergeant Guthrie then served with distinction in the North Carolina Air National Guard for another 9 years. A brilliant, self-taught software developer, Craig single-handedly created revolutionary software systems that help improve public safety. Regardless of the employer, Craig’s professional career was defined by his steadfast commitment to excellence, quick wit and contagious laughter.
A long-time member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and, more recently, Elevation Church, Craig found strength and comfort in his relationship with Jesus Christ. Prayers for his family during this difficult time are much appreciated.
A funeral service for this kind, considerate, loyal and good man will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church (19600 Zion Avenue, Cornelius, NC) on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 2 pm.The family will receive friends for a gathering from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in support of Jacob's college fund may be mailed to:
