Cora Ree Shinn Taylor

Mrs. Cora Ree Shinn Taylor, 88, of Huntersville, NC died Sunday May 15, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville. Born August 8, 1922 in Davidson County NC she was the daughter of the late Rev. James Landers Shinn and Hallie Trantham Shinn. Mrs. Taylor received a business degree from High Point College and was employed with Coble Dairy in Lexington for many years. Upon relocation to Huntersville, she began her employment with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System as substitute teacher in the North Mecklenburg area. She taught business courses through CPCC at North Mecklenburg High School and was recreation director of the Huntersville Recreation Summer Program. Ree was a very active member of Huntersville United Methodist Church where she was a teacher and director of Bible School, a member of the Circle of Faith which became the Logo Circle, member of the Keenagers Senior Citizens Group and United Methodist Womans representative to the Bethlehem Center as advocator of gifts for children. She did volunteer work at the Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home and Lees Nursing Home, volunteered as Santas Elf and the Easter Bunny and made Christmas shoe boxes for Samaritan Purse. She was an accomplished seamstress and gardener in her free time. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 noon Wednesday, May 18 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Goode officiating assisted by Rev. Frank Ison. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:00. A 3:00 p.m. funeral service will follow at Cotton Grove United Methodist Church in Lexington, NC with Rev. Ed Armfield officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Reva Anne Taylor of Miami Fl, Georgia Taylor Royster and husband, George and Cora Elizabeth Taylor of Huntersville; grandchildren, Steve Royster and wife Catherine of Charlotte, Annette Royster of Fort Collins CO; great grandchildren, Patrick and Joseph Royster. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Calvin E. Taylor and brother, James F. Shinn. Memorials may be made to the Huntersville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 378, Huntersville, NC 28070.
