Colonel Stermer, 98, of Charlotte NC quietly passed away in his sleep at Carolinas Medical Center on October 15, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Catherine and his two sons, William and James. Colonel Stermer was born in Cherryville, NJ on January 29, 1916. He was a superb high school baseball athlete and served in the US Army during WWII. At the onset of the war, Ralph Stermer entered the US Army as a Private, was soon recognized for his intelligence, command and organizational skills and quickly transitioned into the Non Commissioned Officer and then Officer ranks. During his 30+ years of service to our country, Colonel Stermer dedicated himself through various command and staff positions in the US Army, Army Reserve and National Guard. Colonel Stermer retired as the Assistant Adjutant General for the Rhode Island National Guard.
