Cleveland William Cox

May 30, 1924 — March 20, 2013

Cleveland William Cox, 88, of Charlotte, NC died peacefully at his residence Wednesday, March 20, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Born May 30, 1924 in Clinton, NC he was a son of the late John Malcolm Cox and Ida Beatty Cox. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for 66 years where he served on the administrative board, was a trustee, served six years as chairman of the staff parish and served on various other committees. He was also president of the Ben Brown Bible Class for over ten years and recipient of the Lifetime Service Award. Mr. Cox served in both the European and Pacific theaters of WWII earning both a Bronze Star and Expert Infantry Medal . He was a member of the VFW Post 9736 and retired from A.G. Boone in 1980. His greatest joy in life was doing things for others, especially people in need. Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Judy Hodson and husband David of Cornelius, Jan Horton and husband Larry of Cornelius; grandchildren, Anna Drury and husband A.J. of Cornelius, Drew Horton of Raleigh; great grandsons, Bryce and Jackson Drury and sisters-in-laws, Mrs. Dora Cox of Huntersville and Mrs. Shirley Cox of Asheboro. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Nadine Washam Cox in 2008, his grandson, Christopher Eller and his six siblings. Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 19600 Zion Street, Cornelius, NC 28031. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Huntersville, NC is assisting the family.
