Clayton Melvin Shelswell

Clayton Melvin Shelswell, 87, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Saginaw, MI passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019.

He was born September 17, 1931 in Freeland, Michigan to the late Melvin and Gertrude Parkin Shelswell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Clayton Jr., and several brothers and sisters.

Clayton is survived by his wife, Frances Doran Shelswell; daughters, Nancy Kennard and husband George, of Southport, NC; Katheryn Shelswell of Charlotte, NC; and Florence Shelswell of Charlotte, NC; son, Robert Shelswell and wife Barbara of Wyoming, MI; grandson, Scott Shelswell; and several nieces and nephews.

Clayton was a proud Army veteran, having earned a purple heart and bronze star.  He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic church in Freeland, MI, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight.  Clayton  was an active participant in the Right to Life organization.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm, Monday, July 22, 2019 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville.  A funeral mass will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Huntersville.  Interment will follow at North Lake Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital or Saginaw County Right to Life.
