Clara Pietsch

May 5, 1919 — April 17, 2015

Clara Wood Pietsch of Denver, NC and The Pines at Davidson, passed away Friday, April 17th, 2015. Born in Utica, NY on May 5th, 1919 to A. Wayne and Sarah Weaver Wood, she graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Home Economics Education. She married Roger Edwin Pietsch on Independence Day, 1942. In time, Clara and Roger would parent Terry Wayne Pietsch and Laura Pietsch Shinn. During their marriage they travelled the world extensively living in Venezuela, Singapore, Japan and many locations in the New York Metro area before retiring to Denver, NC in the late seventies. Throughout her life Clara volunteered extensively in many capacities, including working with special needs children, assistant and substitute teaching, as well as participating with church and various charitable organizations. Clara was patient, nurturing, fun-loving, and a positive and supportive mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her personality endeared her to all with whom she came in contact. Clara loved everyone and everyone loved her. Predeceased by her husband Roger in 1991, Clara is survived by her son Terry and Linda Pietsch of Banner Elk, NC, and her daughter Laura Shinn of Huntersville, NC, grandchildren Krista Miller, Lisa Pentz, Ryan Pietsch, Cara Lursen, and Adam Shinn. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren from ages 8 to 19 years and a great grandchild due in June. A celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, April 23rd at 4:00 pm at St. Peter By-The-Lake Episcopal Church in Denver, NC.
