Chuck passed away Saturday, October 20th, surrounded by family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane; daughter Jennifer; son Andy and his wife Holly and their daughter and Chuck's only granddaughter, Mia. He is also survived by his older brother, Bill and his wife Veronica and their children Sara and Dan Ellithorpe.
Chuck was born in Syracuse, NY on February 1, 1944. The youngest son of Bill and Mary Ellithorpe. He quickly decided he was no match for Syracuse winters so decided to head down South to attend Wake Forest University. Deciding at a young age that medicine and helping others were his calling he entered Medical School at Bowman Grey School of Medicine graduating in 1970 and thus cementing a strong bond to all things Wake Forest. After starting his Family Practice Residency back in Syracuse, NY, he was drafted into the United States Army where he completed his residency training at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Chuck and Jane were fortunate to be stationed at Fort Benning where their daughter, Jennifer, was born. A blessing that continues to this day. Chuck's love for his only daughter was evident from the first day and their bond was as strong as only a fathers and daughters could be.
After his discharge from the Army, he joined North Mecklenburg Family Practice in Huntersville, NC, where he practiced for 35 years alongside Dr. Richard Kerecman and Dr. Jerry Howard. Their friendships continue to this day.
During this time Chuck and Jane were blessed with the arrival of their son, Andy. The love a father has for a son was evident on the day of his birth and will continue on in spirit and memory. He could not have been more proud of all Andy's hard work and accomplishments. Andy married Holly and 3 years ago gave birth to Chuck's only grandchild, Mia Anne. The birth of his granddaughter made his life's journey even more special. The two formed a special bond and she will always love her "Gramp E".
We've been touched over the past few days with the outpouring of support and find comfort in how many people felt like dad was their "best buddy". He never met a stranger. He loved big and had the biggest heart. Unfortunately, it was that big heart that took him to be with our Heavenly Father. We find comfort at this time knowing he was greeted by his parents and several close friends he's lost throughout the years. We know without a doubt God was ready to bring him home and has a bigger purpose for doing so.
The family will honor Chuck with a Celebration of Life Friday, October 26, from 5-9 at the Langtree Plantation 554 Langtree Rd, Mooresville, NC 28117.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause very close to his heart.
