Cecilia Virginia Jarrett

March 2, 1923 — January 2, 2016

Cecilia “Cel” Virginia Witton Jarrett, 92, long-time resident at Aldersgate and devoted friend of many, passed away Saturday, January 2, at Presbyterian Hospital following a brief illness.

Born March 2, 1923 in Martin’s Ferry, OH, to the late Thomas Witton and Mary Ney Witton, Cel was a caring soul—a beautiful person inside and out who looked for ways to serve, encourage and comfort others.

Both she and her husband of 69 years, Robert “Bob” Martin Jarrett, who died February 11, 2012, were always active in their churches—serving as Stephen Ministers, involved in committee work, prominent on the Welcoming Committee at Davidson United Methodist when they lived at Lake Norman, and faithful to their Sunday School Fellowship Class at Myers Park United Methodist Church, which they joined after they relocated to Aldersgate in 2003.  Cel served on the Vespers Support Team at Aldersgate and very much enjoyed the services and fellowship there.  She also was a volunteer member of the Residents Committee.

Earlier in her life, during WWII, Cel worked as a press operator--a virtual “Rosie the Riveter”-- at Blaw-Knox Armaments Corporation, where she met Bob.  She later became Office Manager for Holsum Foods in Waukesha, WI.  When the couple moved to Charlotte in the ‘80s, she worked several years in the office at Crowder Construction.

Cel so loved and cherished time with her family.  She was proud of and is survived by a faithful son, Michael Jarrett of Oconomowoc, WI; a dedicated daughter, Lori Jarrett of Bothell, WA; beloved grandchildren Rebecca and Brian Jarrett, and Jesse and Max Hubbard; and several close nieces and nephews.  A twin son, Jeffrey, another love of her life, preceded her in death in 2007, as did her brother, Richard Witton, and sister, Rosemary Kelty.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Aldersgate and Asbury Care Center for their many kindnesses.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, January 30 in the Francis Chapel of Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, 28207.  Burial will be private.

For those wishing to do so, memorials can be made to the Myers Park United Methodist Church Women’s Ministry at the church address above.

Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.  Friends may offer condolences to the family at www.raymerfh.com.

All who knew Cel, loved her.  Her Maker, who knows her best, and anyone ever graced by her presence, would say: “Well done good and faithful servant, . . .  mother, and friend.”
