Catherine Freismuth Castilow

Catherine “Kitty” Castilow, 83, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023 at Novant Hospital in Huntersville, NC.

She was born in Wheeling, WV on June 3, 1939, daughter of the late Joseph C. and Rhea K. Freismuth. In addition to her parents, Kitty is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Freismuth and nephew Timmy Freismuth.

Raised in Wheeling, Kitty attended St. Josephs Academy (1957) and Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing (1960), where she graduated as a registered nurse and officially began her life-long mission of caring for others.   

Following graduation, Kitty worked at Wheeling Hospital, took time off to raise her family and became an office nurse at Oakwood Clinic Family Practice in Wheeling, WV.  Kitty and her husband, Al, moved from Glendale, WV to Summerville, SC in 1987 where she worked at the Charleston Surgery Center. 

Al and Kitty loved to travel and spent much of their retirement seeing the world. Living in South Carolina for 27 years, she became an avid Charleston Stingray hockey fan, holding season tickets and never missing a game. Kitty devoted her life to her family and was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, and aunt. She loved her gran-dogs, word puzzles, coloring, and staying in touch with her life-long friends and family.

Kitty is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Alvin “Al” Castilow, of Huntersville, NC; daughter, Kathy Fogle (Dave) of Huntersville, NC; and son, Russ Castilow (Anna) of Charlotte, NC.  She is also survived by her beloved brother, Tom Freismuth (Pat) of Wheeling, WV; niece, Mary Kathryn Yeater of Wheeling, WV: nephews, Tucker Freismuth of Norfolk, VA and David Dowden of Canal Winchester, OH; sister-in-law, Gerry Castilow Garbe of Canal Winchester, OH; as well as extended family and cherished friends.

Sadly, Al passed away just 80 days after Kitty. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Kitty and Al at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at St. Alphonsus in Wheeling, WV. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 9:00am to 9:45am.
