Carolyn Angel Southern, of Cornelius, NC was born January 4, 1945 in Greensboro, NC daughter of the late Alvin D. and Dorothy (Friddle) Angel of Stokesdale, NC. She passed away August 7, 2013 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC surrounded by her loving family. Carolyn grew up in Stokesdale and married Russell Wesley [Wes] Southern October 5, 1963. She recently retired from her position as VP of the Cornelius branch of Community One Bank. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her adventurous spirit, strong faith, kindness, love for her family and friends, her courageous ability to embrace and "accept the things she could not change" with a steadfast positive attitude. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and brought (Nina) much happiness. Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory her husband of nearly 50 years, Russell Wesley "Wes" Southern, two children, Sonya (Trevor) Rush of Cornelius, and Marcus (Fiona) Southern of Stanley, four grandchildren, Riley, Avery, Jack and Caleb, her brother, Donald (Barbara) Angel of Greensboro, her sister, Patricia (Powell) Segraves of Stokesdale, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. There will be a visitation Friday, August 9, 2013 from 6-8 pm at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home on Old Statesville Rd. in Huntersville, NC and a funeral service at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Jill Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House or to the Youth Group of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Cornelius.
