Carl L. Zagozewski, 89, of Charlotte, NC, formally of Corning, N.Y. and Phoenix, Ariz., passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at The Oaks of Town Center Nursing Home, Harrisburg, N.C., following an extended illness, with his family by his side. Carl was born on September 17, 1922, in Sayre, Pa., the oldest of five siblings to Paul and Stella Husick Zagozewski. Carl graduated from Sayre High School, class of 1940. He served in the US Army from 1942-1946 as a Lab Technician, serving in India and Palm Springs, Ca. He married Catherine Blakeman on June 16, 1945 at the Sayre Epiphany Church and they spent 56 wonderful years together before Kate's death in 2001. They raised three daughters, Ginger, Marsha and Jennifer and created many memories together along with their daughter's. The girls always said Dad can fix Anything, and he Always Did!' Carl was a Contractor and Avid Musician; music was the love of his life. His trio's played in many clubs in the valley as well as in Elmira and Corning. He also spent many hours reading and among his favorite's were space or cowboy literature. It was his belief that a book a day would keep the doctor away! He left the valley after 50 years to pursue his music talents and moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and spent 30 years in Mesa. He played at the Golden Hills Country Club for many years and even went to perform with his trio at Lake Tahoe; a wonderful memory for him. His groups were named The Zaglan Trio and The Music Maestro's and at one time Nostalgia. He played with many wonderful musicians in the valley and a lot of times with his very talented brother Philip, as well as a dear friend Jake, who also resided in Corning, N.Y. Carl moved to Charlotte, N.C., in June due to declining health. Carl loved the Valley and all its beautiful views, and especially Harris Hill. He spent a lot of time watching the gliders along with his best little friend, Snoball, his little Bichon. They spent 16 wonderful years together. He and Snoball traveled extensively throughout the country and visited friends and relatives to make many wonderful memories. You never saw one without the other. Snoball will now reside at the Beers Home in Charlotte, and upon his death he will be cremated and join his dad to rest in peace together eternally. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine in 2001, his parents and his daughter Jennifer Peters in 1984, grandson Johnny Peters in 1995, brother Eddie Zagozewski, as well as sisters Pauline Senkow and Ann Bloom. Surviving are his daughters, Virginia (Ginger) Lafollette of Waverly, N.Y., Marsha (Duane) Beers of Charlotte, N.C., brother, Philip of Mainsburg, Pa., grandchildren: Billy Creedon, Jeff Creedon, Lisa Creedon, Alison (Greg) Ferro, and Andrea (Denny) Bean all of the valley. David (Joyce) Beers of Columbus, Oh and Brian Beers of Green Bay ,Wi; Kimberly Peters of Prescott, Az and several great-grandchildren; niece's and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all. Rest in Peace dear Dad. It was Carl's wish to be cremated - Raymer- Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Charlotte, NC. is serving the family.
