Carl Ellis Robinson, 88, went to his eternal home on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. He was the tenth of eleven children born to the late Lois Ellis Robinson and Lewis Pinkney Robinson on June 28, 1928 in the Lancaster County (SC) community of Rich Hill. He graduated from Heath Springs High School in 1945, then enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving in Germany. Upon his return to the states he enrolled at the University of South Carolina in Columbia to study electrical engineering. He began his 35 year career with Duke Power in the Great Falls-Rock Hill area. In 1963 he was named plant superintendent at Cowans Ford Hydro, and in September, 1983 he was promoted to area hydro manager, upper Catawba, in Duke’s Operation Department. He was Sunday school superintendent and a member of the official board at Salem Methodist Church in Denver. He was also a member of East Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief at one time. He also was a charter member of the East Lincoln Optimist Club. He was a life member of the VFW and American Legion. Carl loved country and bluegrass music and played guitar in several pick-up bands over the years. He was an avid gardener, woodworker, and bird hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jean; a son Carl Robinson, Jr. ( Susan) of Denver; a daughter Elizabeth Ann Howard ( Eddie) of Fort Worth, TX; a step son Joel Wise (Debra) of Ringgold, GA; a step daughter Jill Williams (Jeff) of Belmont, NC; a brother Malcolm ( JoAnne) of Lexington, SC; Grandchildren ( 13) : Angie Winstead ( Jeff) of Fort Worth, TX; Amy Guthrie ( Tim) of Littleton, CO; Jeremy Howard ( Amy) of Arlington, TX; Joshua Howard ( Tiffany) of Artesia, NM; Ellis Robinson of Denver; Brittany Robinson, Jason Robinson (Jordan) of Denver, Elizabeth Covington of Denver; Grant Covington of Huntersville; Taylor Williams of Charlotte, Ashley Williams of Charlotte; Tyler Wise of Ringgold, GA; and Savannah Wise of Ringgold, GA. Great grand-children (10): Haley and Michael Winstead, Jacob Guthrie,Eddie, Caroline and Brooke Howard, Blaiden and Brylee Howard, Gunner Robinson and Ronnie Giles. Preceding him in death were 8 sisters, 1 brother, and a great-granddaughter Emily Kate Howard.
A full military service for Carl Robinson will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Salem Methodist Church in Denver, with visitation following in the Christian Life Center.
